After Mozilla’s read-it-later app Pocket shut down in August, a number of alternatives popped up to take its place. But one newcomer, Laytr, is taking things further than offering a way to save things to read. The app lets you save anything on the web for later consumption, whether that’s an article, recipe, screenshot, video, PDF, bookmark, or tab.

Apple could apparently still produce another VR headset in the coming years, but according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the project is on “life support” internally, in large part because a much less awkward product from Meta that can do much of what the Apple Vision Pro can do was just announced last week. “You know, Vision Pro, to me, is an amazing device, right, it’s an absolutely amazing device, but I think of it as, like, the early days of computers[…] It is the early days of a long journey, that’s how I feel about Vision Pro.”

Meta is developing a handheld device dedicated to letting users access a Muse AI agent. The Charm highlights how Meta is framing Muse as an AI agent that can be easily personalized as a virtual assistant that’s unique to each user. For example, when you start using Muse, Meta encourages you to give it a unique name. Muse also appears as a friendly, furry creature, though you can change its appearance to your liking. That's a big contrast from ChatGPT or Google's Gemini, which converse as faceless chatbots.

Discord’s age-verification era is upon us, despite community backlash

“Age assurance draws strong opinions and skepticism, especially when it involves sharing biometric information or a form of ID,” Discord CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy wrote in a blog post, published Tuesday. “At the same time, age assurance laws are expanding, and since my last post we’ve had to launch age assurance in other regions, including in Brazil and in Texas.” However, Vishnevskiy says more than 90% of Discord users won’t have to verify their age. He explains that Discord will instead use existing account data to detect “signals,” like account tenure (how long an account has existed), device and activity data, and other usage patterns, to determine whether a user belongs in the adult, teen, or unconfirmed age group.
